Scope: Primarily recordings of office telephone conversations of General Curtis LeMay during the period 1951 through 1955, when he was the commanding general of the Strategic Air Command (copied on LWO 12859); also includes an interview and a speech made by General LeMay in 1945, a recording of the Japanese surrender in World War II (copied on LWO 6808 r.5A5-r.6A5), and interviews and appearances made by General LeMay during his 1968 campaign for the office of Vice President of the United States (LWO 7353).

Curtis Emerson LeMay (November 15, 1906 – October 1, 1990) was an American Air Force general who implemented an effective but controversial strategic bombing campaign in the Pacific theater of World War II. He later served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. LeMay joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, the precursor to the U.S. Air Force, in 1929 while studying civil engineering at Ohio State University.
